Walmart's Crazy Carbonfibre Lorry Concept Makes Haulage Hot

The futuristic Wave concept features the largest panel ever constructed from carbonfibre, and is dripping with innovative features

Lorries are rarely that interesting, but the Wave concept from retail giant Walmart isn't your average lorry. The sleek cab is a much more aerodynamic shape than the slab-fronted things we're used to seeing charging up and down the motorways, and there's a McLaren F1-like central driving position. That, combined with the large glass panels, gives considerably better visibility, making the Wave a much safer lorry to drive around other road users.

The 53-foot-long trailer, meanwhile, is made entirely from carbonfibre; the side panels are said to be the longest objects ever made out of the material. This makes the Wave 1800kg lighter than a conventional vehicle of the same size.

Add in the fact that the whole package is 20 per cent more aerodynamically efficient than other lorries, and you'll see a massive saving in fuel and emissions. For companies with big haulage fleets, that's a huge deal.

Give it a few years, and this could be the sort of vehicle we'll be seeing a lot more of on the roads.
