The Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo Is McLaren's Flagship Hypercar For Gamers
McLaren has created a special concept car for Gran Turismo Sport on PlayStation 4, and it’s as wild as you’d expect.
Yes, they’re still doing these, and no, it’s not a preview for any production model (sadly). Instead, the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo is a response to a call for ‘unique, visionary GT cars’ by Gran Turismo’s famous creator and car guy, Kazunori Yamauchi.

The Woking-based supercar builder says the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo is a realistic interpretation of an achievable hyper-GT for 10 years into the future, which naturally makes us wonder whether there’s more to it than meets the eye. Naturally it’s made mostly from carbonfibre, and the drivetrain is, of course, a hybrid setup with 1150 metric ponies to speak of.
Every line has a purpose, McLaren says, with the bodywork tailored for maximum aerodynamic efficiency. Technology called Integrated Active Aero opens and closes tiny aperture covers around air inlets on key surfaces, generating drag and downforce through corners – and cutting it out on the straights. It weighs a paltry 1000kg wet, or would, if it was anything more than pixels, so you can be fairly sure this is one fast digital racecar.

Power flows to the rear wheels from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, not unlike the one fitted to the current 720S. ‘High-output’ electric motors are housed within the front wheel ‘pods’ and give the car a four-wheel drive system a lot like the one Porsche has used to devastating effect in the WEC series.
It’s said to produce a great noise, too, between the hybrid whine and the exhaust bark, but that probably depends very much on the quality of your TV speakers or headphones…
This car joins past Vision Gran Turismo concepts from the likes of Nissan, Bugatti, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Alpine and Mercedes-AMG.
