Toyota GR Supra Taken Off Sale In The UK, No Clear Return Date

If you were hoping to find an allocation for a brand-new Toyota Supra under the tree this Christmas, you may be a little disappointed if you’re in the UK. The sports car has been taken off sale on our shores, and it’s unclear when it’ll come back.

On Toyota’s website for the GR Supra, a statement reads that the car is “currently unavailable to order” without confirmation if that will change anytime soon. Worse still for the Gazoo Racing fanboys among us with £50,000 to spare, Autocar reports that it’s undecided if the car will indeed return at all and that Toyota ‘declined to comment further’.

It’s not the news we wanted to hear not long after prototypes of a hardcore GRMN version had been spotted testing. Set to use the S58 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine as found in the M3 Competition, it could be good for 503bhp and 479lb ft of torque - comfortably making it the most powerful production Supra that Toyota has ever made.

Though Toyota hasn’t officially confirmed details on that car, its expected limited production numbers already had us worried the UK may receive few if any at all.

That said, Toyota UK has a track record of taking GR products off sale only then to reintroduce some additional allocation. The GR86 initially sold out its two-year production slots in under an hour on sale, though a few more were made available earlier this year.

If the Supra isn’t to return to the UK, you may have to divert your attention towards the BMW Z4 M40i. Near enough mechanically identical, an updated version of the convertible is set to get a manual gearbox for the first time early next year.
