There's Now A Nurburgring Lap Record For Seven-Seaters

With a 236bhp twin-turbo diesel engine pushing around quite a lot of car, the Skoda Kodiaq vRS was never going to go for outright SUV glory at the Nurburgring. Not when the current record holder - the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio - is smaller and has over double the power to play with.
But that’s fine, as Skoda has thought of a clever way of getting around that issue for some Nurburgring marketing goodness: set the…seven-seater SUV record. Well, it’s less ridiculous than the Nordschleife towing record that was set last year, isn’t it?

The record was set by none other than Sabine Schmitz, who managed a 9:29.8 behind the wheel of the warmed-up SUV. For context, that’s one minute and 38 seconds slower than the twin-turbo V6 Stelvio.
The Kodiaq RS will make its public debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show this October. Once it’s on sale, we’d expect it to have a starting price of £34,000 - 35,000.
