Tesla Autopilot Now Has A Big Hissyfit If You Don't Use It Properly
As well as a whole raft of improvements thanks to the implementation of radar, Tesla’s Autopilot v8.0 also takes a much more stern approach to users who don’t do as they’re told.
As shown in the video above, you can still keep your hands off the wheel for a considerable amount of time - over four minutes, in this demonstration. However, once the system decides you should really be holding the wheel, you only get three warnings. Ignore them, and you’re locked out of the ‘Autosteer’ feature “for the rest of This Drive”. By that, the car means when the car’s in park. Put the car back in drive, and your warnings are ‘reset’.
Tesla’s Autopilot system has been in the spotlight recently, amidst news of what’s been labeled as the first ever autonomous car fatality - a crash in Florida which claimed the life of Joshua D. Brown - plus a fatal accident that happened in China earlier in the year that could also be Autopilot-related.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has stated that Autopilot v8.0 should cut Autopilot crashes by half, and that the newest version of the system would have saved Brown’s life.

Autopilot now be like
This 👌👌
Why the foglights though
Good question
Because blending oncoming traffic is loads of fun… What a question
What it needs is a feature where if you kept ignoring those warnings, rather than turn off auto-drive, it just slows down with the hazards on and moved to the right until it can come to a complete stop. In case the person at the wheel has passed out for any reason. Safer that way
It does slow down, to a stop, with hazards on below a certain speed to cover that exact condition.
Many cars actually do that, even the VW Passat stops and puts the hazards on if the driver is unresponsive.
But the warnings and autopilot “ban” is what comes before
tesla should fit an ejector seat after 3 warnings eject the driver. then park the car up its self at the side of the road and then load it self on to autotrader to be sold to someone who knows how to use the system properly :)
Checkmate.

And its called “autopilot”
Oh…the irony…
you do know the autopilot of a plane only hold the place steady at a certain altitude and root, nowadays is a bit more advanced but in old days it only did that and a few planes crashed because the autopilot found a situation he couldn’t handle and the pilots were catch of guard…
I would think changing lanes with auto switch resets the timer as it is a driver input, indicating awareness of the road.
I don’t get why people are complaining about the auto pilot related deaths. There are a lot of tesla’s on the road right now and only heard a few accidents with tesla’s with engaged auto pilots. Compair that to a normal car and it is much safer than any human driven car.
Because that’s human error, and that human is responsible for it, while a computer shouldn’t make mistakes, if it does people get very worried.
The latest driver input was at 1:22 so I think it will probably be three minutes
