The Supercharged Camaro ZL1 1LE Is Already Going Racing And It Sounds Monstrous

We love to hear an American V8 at full chat, so this little video from Team Chevy, featuring a GT4-spec racing Camaro ZL1 has got us a little bit excited

All hail Chevrolet, the kings of making things fast, noisy and exciting. This Camaro GT4.R is about to make its debut at this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge race in St Petersburg, Florida, and it sounds epic in this video posted by Team Chevy on Facebook.

Based on the ZL1 1LE, there’s a 650bhp supercharged V8 under the bonnet coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox. Fist pumps are allowed right now.

What separates it from the road car is trick aerodynamics starting with air deflectors and dive planes to add downforce and a rear wing that, even in stock trim, creates 136kg of downforce – although at what speed, we don’t know.

As well as the Pirelli race, it’s set to do battle in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, in the Grand Sport class, starting in May at the Circuit of the Americas, Texas.

Anyway, back to the important stuff. If you’re anything like us, that video will be on repeat for at least a couple of minutes…

Whoever says American cars can’t handle should take a look at this and re-evaluate their life choices, cause they were definitely wrong

Well, it’s more like forcing a heavy car to handle well (which is something they can obviously do) than creating a car specially made to handle. I think the “hate” comes from that, because everyone knows that it’s a very capable piece of machinery

They “are” wrong. They were right, as once upon a time, America did have the worst handling cars. They are great now.

Thanks to GM’S australian subsidiaries Holden/Holden Special Vehicles who designed and engineered the Zeta platform that it’s build on and shares with Chevy SS as well
