It’ll be no surprise to us in Europe that there’s a new special-edition Subaru WRX coming that we won’t get. After all, we haven’t had a WRX of any kind since the WRX STI Final Edition of 2017.

However, in the case of this particular special edition, it’ll be just as forbidden to those of you in the US and other parts of the world that aren’t Australia. This is the WRX Club Spec, which is set to be sold exclusively down under, and just 150 will be made.

It’s based on the US-spec TR which was revealed in October 2023, which means some fairly comprehensive chassis changes over the standard car.

It gets a snazzy set of 19-inch wheels as standard, normally 18-inch on the WRX, wearing a set of Bridgestone Potenza 007 tyres. That combo houses a set of Brembo brakes with 340mm discs and six-piston callipers on the front axle, while the rear has 236mm discs with two-piston callipers. There’s an uprated master cylinder, too.

Suspension hardware remains the same as the boggo WRX, which is to say passive dampers rather than the adaptive system you’d find on another special edition, the tS. However, damping rates are revised for the Club Spec. It does however take the Recaro seats from the tS.

Crucially, the Club Spec gets a huge rear wing that you won’t find on either the TR or the tS. Ahead of the TR being released, it was rumoured it’d get the spoiler but that never materialised. At least those Stateside might have a chance of importing a spare OEM one now, though.

Power is unchanged over the base Subaru WRX, with its 2.4-litre four-pot turbocharged boxer engine pumping out 271bhp and 258lb ft of torque. Delightfully though, all 150 will come with a six-speed manual gearbox rather than a hateful CVT.

No word yet on how much the Subaru WRX Club Spec will cost, but it’ll go on sale in April. Worth keeping in mind it’ll be right-hand drive for the Australian market, in case any of us in the UK are feeling tempted enough with an import.
