This Save Is Ridiculous, Even For MotoGP

As we’ve discussed many times before, top-level bike racers just aren’t human. They simply can’t be, given the otherworldly things we see them do on a regular basis.

This particular moment, however, stands out as being particularly ridiculous. The footage, captured during the Moto2 class race of the Czech motorcycle Grand Prix, shows the back-end of Steven Odendaal’s NTS bike violently snap, appearing to trigger what’s known as a ‘highside’ crash’. But that’s not how the incident pans out.

Somehow, the South African rider is not just able to hang on, but also keep the bike upright and stopped before both he and it charge into the gravel trap. It’s extremely impressive to watch, and we’d recommend you’d check out the higher-speed playback (which we can’t embed) of the incredible save on YouTube.

Odendaal finished a long way off winning rider Álex Márquez way back in 22nd and is yet to score a point just over half-way into the 2019 Moto2 season. But whatever happens in the remaining eight rounds, he’ll surely win the unofficial award for save for the year.
