This Is The Range Rover Velar: The Evoque's Big Brother
In today’s niche-obsessed car industry, the gap between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport is almost chasm-like. So, it should come as no surprise that Land Rover has decided fill the void with this: the new Range Rover Velar. You know, the same one that was all over the news a few weeks ago…
It’s now official, though, with Land Rover releasing a several teaser images, and confirming that it’ll say it’s big hello to the world on 1 March.
Land Rover claims it’ll be “refined for every occasion, for every terrain”. So in other words, it should essentially be a mini Range Rover Sport rather than an up-sized Evoque: able to cut it off road, while being freakishly good to drive on road.
The British firm isn’t giving away much else right now, but has explained where the name comes from. It goes back to the initial pre-production prototypes of the original Range Rover, which were given the name ‘Velar’ to disguise their identity. The term is “derived from the Latin velare meaning to veil or cover”. The more you know.
Will it be good enough to give the Porsche Macan a good kicking? We’ll have to wait and see…
