This Racer Escaped His MX-5 Just As It Burst Into Flames
Racing driver Ben Waddell had to bring his Mazda MX-5 to a stop after the fuel tank burst, leaving the vehicle just as a huge fire erupted
Skip Barber Formula Series regular Ben Waddell endured a terrifying moment while taking a break from single-seaters at the weekend.
He was driving what looks to be a Mazda MX-5 when the fuel tank burst, showering him in petrol. He immediately went off track and stopped, hurled the steering wheel away and got the hell out of there. Not a moment too soon it turned out, as the car burst into flames just as he was exiting.
Although the car is - as you can see above - in a bad way, Waddell himself walked away with only a few blisters.
A lucky escape…
