Still upset about the 911 GT3 and GT3 RS having no manual gearbox option? Here’s your antidote. And what an antidote it is.

It’s called the 911 R, and although it’s something we’ve been expecting thanks to a bunch of rumours and spy shots, we weren’t supposed to see it until the Geneva motor show - which kicks off tomorrow. Thanks to some (low res) leaked images and details, we’re getting our first look a little early.

It’s best thought of as a 911 GT3 RS without the shouty aero bits, which means it has the same 4.0-litre, naturally aspirated flat-six mounted up back. The key change is something you’ll see in the interior snap above: yep, unlike the PDK-only GT3 RS, you’ll be able to enjoy all of the car’s 493bhp output while stirring through the gears yourself via a manual ‘box. Lovely.

Details are still very limited at this stage, but there has been talk before about the 911 R coming with narrower tyres than the GT3 RS, a further sign that this one’s more about enjoyment than ultimate lap times. We do hope those decals are optional, though.

Given the choice, what would you have: an R or a GT3 RS?

Glad that porsche made a manual version of the 991 911!! But I would still stick with the gt3rs as my dream car, there’s something about that car that gives me goosebumps.

I would get the 911 R, and then put the GT3 wing on it

A lot of the now leaked info has been out for quite a while right? I knew from someone who has a preorder on one that it would be a stripped gt3rs with a manual box. Don’t know anything about the tire size though.
They were first offered to 918 buyers and after that to porsche collectors.

I am not even a Porsche person but the want is strong with this! I have always been a manual guy and would definitely take the R over the GT3 RS.

Since it has the same tailights as the pre-facelift 991, as well as the same front led lights, there’s a 95% probably for this to be just another inaccurate photoshop

definetly the 911 R :3 i love standards. And for all the people that picked the gt3 rs you aren’t a pro driver :v. Nah but manuals are the best :3. more power, more exp engaged with the driver and also more conection with the driver and the car. PLEASE SAVE THE MANUALS!!!!!!!!!! QQ

I would have the 911 R over the GT3/GT3 RS 991 although I would have a 997 911 GT3 RS either 3.8 or 4.0 over the 991 911R and the 991 GT3/GT3 RS. I would take the 3.8 but my dream car is a 4.0 soo I would take that moore. :)
