An old school bonkers lap of Bathurst
You hear the terms driving “flat out” and “at ten tenths” a lot, and if you need to show someone what that means, this lap of Bathurst is the video to use.

Peter brock is absolutely on the ragged edge all the way, tires just hanging on… front wheel off the ground… rear wheel off the ground… smoke, flames and a moment that anyone not in the zone would have lost it into a wall.
Breathtaking stuff… but he didn’t make pole for his two butt clenching moments and motorsport is hard.
The stuff legends are made of.

I love the Group A era a Bathurst, but my favourite lap of the Mount Panorama is this one, courtesy of Murray Walker:

I miss Murray. Since he retired there’s been no one to take his place. He was the voice of Motorsport.

Thats the best ive seen
That V8 Roar.
Any top 10 shootout from that era is a blast to watch, but Brock really brings the magic.
277km/h with an open window :O
That’s made me crave Tooheys. Who said advertising doesn’t work?
They were the sponsor of the event at the time
as much as i love brocky the holden engine sounds strangled compared to the earlier year v8s
go listen to ford known as green tuff its what a v8 should sound like
The Greens Tuff Falcon was a Group C car with different engine regulations. It had way more power than the later Group A Holdens.
There are no Group A Aussie Fords to compare it to though as the Blue Oval pulled out after 1984. The Mustang DJ used sounds just as strangled.
I feel like this is what modern racing is missing: Drivers beeing on the absolute limit and beyond that. In a time dictated by downforce it’s hard to get this kind of on-the-edge-of-your-seat feeling by just watching a qualifying lap. I don’t mean we should just take away downforce and make the cars slower again but…man we lost a lot for the price of lap times and track records.
Advances in tire technology and aero really have made racing look sterile and boring.
That’s why I love watching Touring Car Masters with all those brutish old muscle cars. The sensation of speed is way better with those. It’s even more entertaining than V8 Supercars.
HOLY S*T!!!
There is probably a handful of humans in history who can drive like that, or have the balls at least!
Amazing stuff!!!
I love Bathurst! I love the Aussie V8’s!
An absolute machine at the track, completely focused but also willing to have a little chat as well.
