Now's The Time To Buy A Hot Mk2 Focus ST
Following the reveal of the sexy new Focus ST, we thought now was the perfect time to scour the classifieds for a good example of the car’s predecessor. Despite having an extra cylinder and half a litre of engine more, the old Mk2 ST is actually a fair bit down on power compared to the current version’s 247bhp. Nevertheless, with 225bhp, it still has plenty of poke.
0-62mph comes up in 6.8 seconds, while the top speed is 152mph. The best part, though, is the warbly five-pot engine note. And unlike the current ST, it doesn’t have so much power that it overwhelms the front wheels. It’s not all good news; the 2.5-litre engine is particularly thirsty, and the interior isn’t the nicest. But with prices starting at under £5000, the ST offers a whole lot of hot hatch for the money.
Interested? This one could be worth a look. It’s the high-spec ST-3 version, has done a reasonable 92,000 miles and is up for £5995.
