The Next Lamborghini Huracan Will Be A Plug-In Hybrid
The next Lamborghini Huracan will be a plug-in hybrid using next-gen battery technology, according to reports.
It’s going to employ solid-state batteries that will carry more charge for less weight than current technologies, the idea being to maintain the car’s admirable dynamic qualities. The Urus SUV is known to be the first Lamborghini to use the petrol-electric setup, but the Huracan will be its first hybrid sports car.
There’s no information about the V10 yet. Will it keep it, or downsize to a turbocharged V8? Or, and you might want to sit down for this, maybe even a blown V6 like the Ford GT? A part-electric turbo V6 drivetrain would easily out-muscle the current V10, after all…
In an interview with Autocar, the company’s boss Stefano Domenicali said:
“The [next] Huracan – that car will need hybridisation. Hybridisation is the answer, not [full] electric.
“There is still a lot of potential for the V12. The right approach for us is to have the V10 and V12 to suit our customers and then be ready to switch [to a hybrid] at the right moment.”
Lamborghini is working with the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on composite materials and alternative battery technologies. The apparent production target for a production hybrid Huracan is the early 2020s.
Sister company Porsche has also been looking at solid-state batteries, but part of Lamborghini’s work with MIT involves trying to differentiate the technologies from rival sports car makers. We hope they can come up with something special.

Oh no! How can they dare making a hybrid supercar? After all, the hybrid supercars we had in the past - P1, LaFerrari and 918 - were absolute and utter garbage!
Seriously, guys. You are ignoring signs that are right in front of your eyes. The “holy trinity” of supercars were amongst the quickest cars that ever were produced, they were in many ways better than a purely ICE supercar could ever be. And, altough not a hybrid, the downsized turbocharged engine of the Ford GT broke all the bad cliches that existed of American cars. Yet you folks cry about Lamborghini making a hybrid supercar with a possibly downsized engine as if it was the end of the world. I’m usually not that much of an unpleasant person, but let me just ask one question: are you stupid or something?

When you think of Lamborghini, you think of naturally aspirated v10’s or v12’s but no, people want to think of an ev hybrid thing instead.SAD.
Honestly, the v6 turbo in the ford gt was the biggest mistake the company could’ve made when redesigning that car.
Guys, don’t overreact, some of these articles by Car Throttle aren’t always entirely accurate in the end!
I hope they keep the V10 (who doesn’t) but perhaps they might make it a little smaller (say 4.5-5 litres) to keep total horsepower about the same. Otherwise the Huracan will really poach sales from the Aventador.
