Ladies and gentlemen: lock up your VW Golf Rs and Renaultsport Meganes, because the new Honda Civic Type R is here. And damn, does it look angry.

It’s been revealed ahead of its the Paris Motor Show debut in prototype form, and while previous reports had indicated that the 10th generation Civic-based Type R would have its looks toned down compared to the crazed ninth-gen car, but if this prototype is anything to go by, that isn’t going to happen.

We have a front splitter, a pair of side skirts and a rear diffuser made from carbonfibre, a huge bonnet vent, and of course, a spoiler of Brobdingnagian proportions sitting on the boot. To up the visual aggression further, the show car is finished in a “highly reflective, finely-grained brushed aluminium-effect.”

And that’s about all we know for now. Under the bonnet we’re expecting the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder as seen in the current Type R, albeit with a little more power on tap. A figure closer to the 345bhp enjoyed by the Focus RS, we’re thinking.

A production version will be revealed next year, and yes, you will be able to buy it in North America for the first time.

Oh my god that thing is ugly…. seriously, i hope they sell it with black windows otherwise you won’t be driving that in the streets without feeling embarassed.
why do they have to overload things like that.. it’s so vulgar it hurts

I understand that if you wanted a Type-R but didn’t want the massive wing and overdone styling, this would be a problem. However, a lot of those kinds of people would’ve looked at hot hatches with more subdued styling. Honda weren’t really aiming to be everyone’s cup of tea with this one, basically.

345hp on a fwd car is almost un-drivable because of torque steer….. oh…. wait….. that’s right it’s a Honda it doesn’t have torque till it’s at over 8k rpm.

Someone like me, who’s surrounded by Golfs, Polos, E-classes, 3 series and so on, really enjoys seeing something different. I always catch myself looking way longer at an Impreza STI or Lancer Evolution than at a Audi S5 for example. Don’t get me wrong, these are all beautiful cars, but I’ve always been something “different” to other car guys. I’m a fan of the unusual or unconventional. Therefore, I’m with you, bro.

Why don’t they make 2 door type r any more?

3 door hatches just aren’t practical and probably wouldnt sell as well as a coupe or 5 door hatch

Am I the only one who enjoys the looks of this one? And definitely after the complete failure and a major turn off of the Focus interior and especially that plastic crap centre console with little buttons.. I am really looking forward to see how this one will be from the inside
