The New Toyota 'Supra' May End Up With A Different Name

We’ve gotten to the point where pretty much everyone - from car fans to automotive publications - have just resorted to calling Toyota’s incoming new sports car ‘Supra’. But here’s the thing: it’s still not official, and Toyota may yet go in another direction.
Speaking to Auto Guide at the LA Auto Show, Jack Hollis, boss of Toyota North America division, said, “Yes, we have other ideas, and yes, the Supra name is in consideration.” He went on to say, “The name decision will not be made until next year as well. There are some other candidates for some other reasons that are really pretty strong.”
The wishes of the Internet’s car fans certainly haven’t escaped Toyota, though. “In today’s world of social media [we] let it go where it goes because that may even help to direct the final answer,” Hollis said. He also referred to the ‘Supra’ badge as a “leading candidate.”
The name is just one detail surrounding the car - part of a joint venture that’ll also spawn the next BMW Z4 - that remains unknown. We’re still not entirely sure when it’ll be revealed to the world (rumours had incorrectly pointed toward October’s Tokyo Motor Show), whether or not it’ll have a manual option, and exactly what kind of engines will be used.
Do you think Toyota should revive the Supra name, or go with something else?

Best of using a different name. Let the legend die heroically than bring it back as another techno-fest sports car for the millennials.
In my opinion, a different name should be used. The supra is an iconic car and this version may not be that great at first,so do we really want to ruin the supras name?
yeah i like that idea if they mess it up that car is not under legend name
better off letting legends die than milking them
looking at you Fast n Furious
I think from Toyota’s standpoint it would probably help sell cars to have the brand recognition of the Supra name. From my perspective it looks like it will have most of the Supra’s defining characteristics, so I think they should. In the end though all I care about is that there is another awesome car on the market no matter what the name is
The name Supra is a strong and well recognized in our community, and it will definitely give a boost to the sales as it’s much appreciated by toners and car guys in general. Maybe they’re thinking “what if the car couldn’t stand for the name Supra ?” also some might judge the car and compare it to the older one, same as when people compare R35 to R32 or R34.
Nevertheless, I would love to see the name Supra again.
Following Mitsubishi they’ll probably name the next Prius as a Supra
To be honest, the Supra name doesn’t carry all that much heritage except the tuning factor. It would be far more significant if for example Nissan would drop the GTR badge or Volkswagen the GTI.
Should call it the Beta. Beta male Toyota pulls out of racing games for no reason.
Toyota lost all brand credibility among our culture, or most of it anyway. So wouldn’t doubt something as stupid as a hyrbid I4 stuffed in there.
It will probably be something closely related, like what they did with the GT86-AE86.
