The Mercedes-AMG GTR Pro Is Coming To Win All The Track Days

You know all those angry-looking Mercedes AMG GT test mules we’ve seen thundering around the Nurburgring for the last year? Now we know what they were for.

Mercedes-AMG has released a single picture of a camo-clad beast on its Facebook page, confirming its name as the ‘AMG GTR Pro’. Details are scarce at this stage, with Mercedes merely saying the car will be “closer to motor racing than ever before”. We are, however, given a reveal date: it’ll be out on 28 November at the LA Auto Show.

We can expect the more power from the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 - which develops 577bhp in the standard GTR - a more aggressive suspension setup, and new aero parts. In the teaser image, we can see that the Pro has a new bumper which has sprouted a lower splitter and gurney flaps.

It won’t be the most hardcore road-going AMG GT we’ll ever see, though: AMG boss Tobias Moers has previously hinted that later in the car’s life, a Black Series will join the ranks.

By definition, track days are not competitions. Please stop calling track days as if they’re competitions. You’re damaging my industry, one insurance provider at a time.

What you don’t see is that track days strive hard to ensure that they’re not timed racing competitions. If they are classed as such, it’s impossible to get insurance for them. If one of my driver-guests has a crash then there is no way to have insurance cover it since it was racing.

Read the law cases of the Porsche owner v. Aviva Insurance in Ontario, Canada, please. Track days are not competitions! You can’t win a track day.

Seriously, you’ve really gotta stop.
