The McLaren 650S Le Mans Special Is An Awesome Way To Celebrate An Anniversary
2015 marks 20 years since the legendary GT1-class McLaren F1 GTR took victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, beating a load of prototype racers which were expected to easily take the win. Naturally, Woking wants to mark the occasion, and has done so using this limited-edition 650S, which sports various nods toward the F1 GTR.
The wheels - 19-inch at the front and 20-inch at the rear - closely mimic the ones seen on the 1995 GTR. Meanwhile, there’s a ruddy great scoop on the roof, which feeds air to the 641bhp 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 (which is unchanged) while “providing enhanced aural drama within the cabin.” The front wings feature a series of small louvres designed to reduce pressure around the wheels, which increases downforce.
This homage comes together rather attractively, but then it should do: at £244,500, it’s a fair bit pricier than the 650S, which weighs in at £195,250. Still, with the limited production run, it’s likely to become a valuable collectors’ item.
The car is available to order now, with deliveries starting mid-2015.
