Lamborghini Is Planning A Semi-Off-Road Huracan And We've Never Been So Conflicted

Lamborghini good, SUVs bad. Huracan good, big wheels on dirt tracks bad. A Huracan with height-adjustable suspension and bash plates? Well, we just don't know what to feel
Lamborghini Is Planning A Semi-Off-Road Huracan And We've Never Been So Conflicted

If ever any news story should leave you totally unsure of how to feel, this is it. Lamborghini is rumoured to be planning a semi-off-roader based on the Huracan, with height-adjustable suspension, chunkier wheel arches and under-body bash plates.

You got it: the project is essentially a Lamborghini rallycross legend in the making. Sort of. Maybe. Either way, it’s possibly the most emotionally confusing thing ever to come out of Sant’Agata, but we bet it would look fantastic with a big machine gun on top. Well-heeled preppers have probably already placed their orders.

Putting the ‘sports’ firmly into SUV, the ‘Huracan Safari’ idea comes from the Audi Nanuk concept of 2013, which had adjustable air suspension for a 70mm variance in ride height… and the V10 diesel engine from the old Q7. The idea wouldn’t be to create a proper off-roader, but a sports car that could also be used in the parts of Italy where the roads were last surfaced in the 1960s.

Naturally it will be four-wheel drive, and you have to expect that higher-profile tyres would be essential. Even light off-roading on 35-section tyres would be agonising. We don’t have any indication as to whether the Huracan’s high-revving V10 petrol engine would remain, or whether – brace for impact – they might consider loading it with a big diesel like the Nanuk, but we’d suspect the former.

On one hand this feels so woefully contrived that we feel slightly sick about it, but on the other hand it could be an absolutely epic adventure road trip-mobile. We’ll let you know when we’ve decided how we feel…

Not like it’ll be the first but there have been some examples of off road supercars like this - Aixan Mega Track V12. Used a Merc V12 with 400bhp and it was mostly alright performance wise.

It’s still the best example of an all-road supercar. On top of that it’s large enough to generate its own gravity, which is just awesome.

This would actually be cool, but I fear that its owners will never use it for its intended purpose. Just look at the G-class.

Yeah like actually off-roading is its intended purpose

Hmm, if that’s the case, people will just be buying it for the name and what it’s supposedly capable of, not actually using it. I expect to see these on me next car spotting trip, then!
