A Koenigsegg Agera RS Just Clocked A Record-Breaking 277.9mph

A two-way run in Nevada looks to have crowned the Agera RS as the fastest car in the world

Remember Koenigsegg’s record-breaking 0-400-0 run? Seems that was just a warm up, as Koenigsegg has now bagged the speed record to rule them all. Yep, it looks like the Agera RS is now the world’s fastest production car.

Details are limited at this stage (the Swedish supercar firm is promising more information in due course), but we do know that the 277.9mph figure is an average taken from two runs, which means this will qualify for a Guinness World Record. A record achieved comfortably - the RS went over 10mph faster than the current holder, the Bugatti Veyron Supersport.

The run was done on a closed road near Pahrump, Nevada, which would explain why we saw a bunch of Koenigseggs in the area when driving the new Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk on a nearby press trip. As with the 0-400-0 run, it was Koenigsegg factory driver Niklas Lilja behind the wheel - he’s clearly a man with adamantium-spec balls.

We can’t wait to see the footage…

But HOW “factory” was it? The 0-400-0 stunt was made by an odd mix of car and engine.

I wish Buggatti would release a hardcore singleseater with the Chiron engine to go as fast as possible.
But this will probably never happen.

The one thing the Bugatti brand was bought to do. Make the fastest cars in the world. Well, didn’t really go exactly to plan…
