If you thought it was impressive that the Ford Mustang outsold the Porsche 911 and the Audi TT in Germany last month, wait until you get a load of this latest stat. Ford has just revealed that the latest coupe version of its pony car shifted 110,000 units last year (plus 30,000 convertibles), making it the “top-selling sports coupe worldwide” and the only car of its kind to sell more than 100,000 examples globally.

Seems like the whole ‘World Car’ approach is working well - these figures will be helped massively by the fact the latest ‘Stang is available in 140 countries.

The V8 is still proving popular, too. Commenting on the news, Ford sales analyst Erich Merkle said: “while much of the growth in Mustang demand in the United States has come from coastal markets – especially Southern California – and millennials opting for the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine, buyers in other countries prefer the V8.”

This doesn’t come as a surprise, as in the UK thus far, the eight-banger has accounted for the most sales. “That unmistakable V8 warble is a hot commodity outside the US,” he added, while thinking “Murica!” Probably.

Where did you get 500 from?
1000 have been delivered to the UK with another 2500 (as of March 2016) on back order. By now, in total, there’s probably over 4000 sold.

That’s because people who bought Mustangs totaled theirs and then ended up buying replacements.

They sell so many because people crash them or they get impounded and they want to do it all over again.

Ihe thing is. In Europe there has never been affordable performance cars.
Porsche, while it’s great, it’s notably more expensive,
Audi TT is bit cheaper and notably slower than the V8 mustang, (and more expensive than the 2.3 ecoboost) and TTS which is only slightly slower (but might outhandle?) the mustang is again cheaper.
How ever this is only in my country, and things might be different in other countrys across the europe.

There would be more camaro crash videos but its hard to film a crash video when you’re broke down on the side of the road or back at the factory for a recall…
