Hyundai Prices Genesis Coupe R-Spec

The vehicle that really showed the world Hyundai intended to compete in every arena was the Genesis and Genesis Coupe. The company developed a new rear-wheel drive platform to underpin the two vehicles, as well as a "Tau" V-8 engine for the sedan. That's an engine we would like to see in a future iteration of the Genesis Coupe, but that's another story.

We haven't had a chance to test the Genesis sedan, but the Genesis Coupe we reviewed early in the year was highly impressive.

It proved that Hyundai provide a competitive value in both the luxury and performance categories. The brand's effort in the performance arena gets a boost today with the R-Spec model for the 3.8-liter V-6.

The R-Spec is a stripped-down version of the 3.8 Track model, following in the footsteps of the R-Spec model available for the 2.0T. This car will be basic, as features deemed not essential get removed - things such as automatic headlights, cruise control, and chrome and metal-grain interior accents.

But the results are impressive for the performance-minded enthusiast.  Weight is dropped by 68 pounds versus the Track model, and you save $4,000.

The total package comes in at $27,550, which is an incredible value for a RWD drive car with performance hardware and a V-6 engine making 306 horsepower. The R-Spec probably won't see a whole lot of sales, but we say way to go to Hyundai for responding to the wants of enthusiasts. That's the way to do it!
