New Top Gear aired last night at 8pm in the UK, and unsurprisingly, it's been a massive talking point (both good and bad). So my question to you now is this: how did you rate it out of 10?
For me, it was a 6/10. It was never going to be an amazing first episode with all of the hype and criticism. Was Chris Evans nervous? I thought so. But he’s only human and has even admitted he didn’t like that he was taking over what Clarkson, Hammond and May had previously done being a fan of the show himself. For all the haters out there I’d say give it at least 3 episodes, then make your mind up.
Why don’t they just put Matt in Extra Gear with Rory and Chris Harris and call that Top Gear. The segments were ok but Chris Evans is just too damn annoying. His character just feels forced. He keeps on shouting. It’s like he’s trying to imitate Clarkson. He can’t say a simple sentence without making a pause in the middle to make it sound dramatic but it just sounds plain awful.

1/10 - Evans trying to imitate Clarksons intro was painful, his studio segments were awful: stop trying to tell the audience to cheer. If they want to cheer, they will! Star in the RallyX car was awful, interview went on for too long, didn’t really have a focus point to it, and the laps were meh at best. I much preferred the old proper track, not this gimmick.
Evans seems much better on the radio, when he’s not following scripted lines (during voice overs and such), but he wasn’t too bad on the pre-recorded segments when they were out and about, however it was still quite hard to watch.
Matt Leblanc, I like him, but I don’t feel he’s able to overcome the awfulness that is Evans sadly. His voiceovers seemed a little too lackluster too, not enough enthusiasm, whereas Evans was too hyper, like a child dizzy on lemonade.
Overall, I gave it a chance, went in optimistic, and was left very disappointed; even if I wasn’t comparing it to the old show, and it was a totally new show named something else, I would still not have enjoyed it, or want to watch it again.
Matt seems good on location shoots but a little wooden in the studio, Chris was just loud and awful all round. I give it a 4, mainly down to Matt. Extra Gear looks promising though.

they had no chemistry with each other. every time they talked it just felt awkward and unprofessional. I will watch it next week again to give a better opinion on the matter but judging by this first episode it isn’t looking great. However the first ever episodes of the good top gear were terrible but look how that turned out…
4, wasn’t downright awful but it was just sooo boring.
