Here's Why A Marshal Was Running Around On Track At The Singapore GP Re-Start

The FIA has explained that its re-start procedures weren't followed at the Singapore GP, which is why a marshal was still on track while cars were heading toward him at racing speeds

The 2016 Singapore Grand Prix wasn’t exactly a thriller, but there were two incidents which stood out: Nico Hulkenburg’s heavy start-line crash, and a marshal running for his life after the resulting safety car session ended.

Fortunately, the marshal in question escaped without injury. But what the hell was he doing there? According to Autosport, although the FIA-mandated trio of ‘track clear’ calls had been made, the marshal was sent out by a track official anyway.

An FIA spokesman told the publication that its procedures weren’t “properly executed”. They added: “We take this very seriously…Everything will be done to ensure this does not happen again.”

Nico Rosberg won the race from pole position ahead of Daneil Ricciardo and Lewis Hamilton. The win has put Rosberg back in the lead of the championship.
