One thing we can all plainly agree on is that the Lamborghini Aventador is a tad underpowered. Just 690bhp is all it delivers, so it’s a good thing the company has released a more powerful version.

The Aventador S gets a further 40bhp from the 6.5-litre V12, taking the total to a more respectable 730bhp, and Lamborghini promises more agility as well. Other key stats include 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds, a 217mph top speed and a 150rpm higher redline – now at 8500rpm.

In a fun development Lamborghini has retuned the four-wheel drive system so that up to 90 per cent of the power and torque can be sent to the rear wheels. We likey.

Out back the exhaust is 20 per cent lighter than before, we’re told, and overall weight stays the same. New aerodynamic extras give 130 per cent more downforce at the nose, along with 50 per cent more at the back.

Autocar reports that for the first time it will integrate four-wheel steering that’s similar to the system used by Porsche. The two companies share ownership, after all. Pushrod suspension with magneto-rheological internals will give faster responses, says its maker.

And as if we needed reminding that Lamborghini owners are a boisterous lot, a fourth driving mode will be added to the existing Strada, Sport and Corsa modes. It’s called Ego – we kid you not – and allows the driver to pick and choose a combination of chassis and engine settings to suit them.

The price hike over the standard Aventador is reportedly £11,106, making the starting price £271,146. At that price we assume you’ll take two.

I think I might have a clue about why it’s called ‘Ego’, because it’ll inflate Your ego because you can now entertain your passengers with the selection of buttons and controls…

Probably not though. Definitely not…I suspect.

Honda can beat that
But there is a slight difference between 2L inline 4
And 6.5 V12 (in complexity, rotating mass, piston speed etc)

It’s like if Apple released the S version of the same phone. It’s probably not worth it.

Much needed refresh. Still don’t think I could ever bring myself to own one because of all the tasteless teens who buy them and immediately crash them. Which is of course stubborn because I’d be lucky to be able to afford one
