Goodwood Revival Is Making A Full Switch To Sustainable Fuels

Historic motorsport is a wonderful thing, seeing classic racers hammered to their limits around a track in a way few have since their heydays. In an eco-conscious age though, there can be a sense of guilt toying around with high-emitting classics for pure entertainment - but now one event has a solution.

In case you’re unfamiliar, Goodwood Revival sees a tonne of historic cars flock to the Hampshire countryside for a throwback weekend, with a bit of racing thrown in too. From 2024, every car competing in a race at the Revival will be required to run on FIA-grade sustainable fuel. According to Goodwood, it’ll be the first event of its kind to make such a move.

In accordance with FIA requirements, 70 per cent of the fuel will have to include ‘advanced sustainable components’, though is said to require no modifications to be used.

The event has seen such fuels used this year. A grid of pre-1966 Porsche 911s competed using the more eco-friendly option for the Fordwater Trophy, with 2009 F1 World Champion Jenson Button among the drivers. A 1925 Bentley 3-Litre Speed Model running on the spec fuel also won the Rudge-Whitworth Cup across the same weekend.

The Duke of Richmond, founder of the Goodwood Revival, said: “Goodwood has an illustrious motorsport history and one which we are delighted to continue with the announcement that at next year’s Revival, all of our races will run on sustainable fuel.

“I am proud that we are the first to be mandating the use of sustainable fuels at the event, and would like to thank all of the participating owners, drivers and preparers for their support.”

The 2024 edition of the Goodwood Revival will take place 6-8 September.
