Well, this is a little awkward, isn’t it? Mark Reuss - product development head for General Motors - managed to punt a Corvette ZR1 pace car into a wall at the Detroit Grand Prix, just before round 2 of the IndyCar Detroit Grand Prix.

Reuss lost control of the 755bhp V8 monster after hitting one of the street circuit’s notorious bumps, pitching it into a barrier with enough force to set off the airbags and leave the front-end of the car in a rather sorry state. Reuss - who has been on pace car duties at Detroit numerous times before - was thankfully uninjured in the crash, as was passenger Mark Sandy.

Following the accident, GM fielded a back-up ZR1 with Spanish IndyCar driver Oriol Servià at the wheel. The race itself was eventually won by Ryan Hunter-Reay, ahead of championship leader Will Power.

See? this is why Autopilot is so dangerous, they need to either change its name or get rid of it.
