Ford's New Mach 1 Will Be A Focus-Based FWD Electric Crossover

New details of Ford's Mach 1 resurrection have emerged, and Mustang fans might well be triggered
Ford's New Mach 1 Will Be A Focus-Based FWD Electric Crossover

The Mach 1 name is a legend. Used by Ford on various Mustangs from 1969 to 1978, it returned for a brief stint on the fourth-gen pony before disappearing for good. As Ford announced a few weeks ago though, it’s coming back, and in a form that might not go down too well with purists.

We already knew about the new Mach 1 being an electric performance SUV, but now Autocar is reporting that it’ll be a front-wheel drive and based on the ‘C2’ architecture used for the new Focus. If those Mustang fans weren’t triggered already, they probably will be now.

The electric crossover will have some Mustang-derived styling features to go with the Mach 1 name, and will be joined by another resurrected Ford moniker: Bronco. These two cars - both expected to arrive in 2020 - are part of a crossover/SUV product offensive from Ford, which will see the firm kill off most of its conventional passenger cars in the North American market.

Thanks to Ford’s new global strategy, we can expect both to be sold in the UK.

But why ???

I don’t think crossover buyers would care if it’s a Mach 1 or not, heck some don’t even know what’s a Mach 1 in the first place !
Why would they humiliate a sporty name with an EV crossover for sales? hoping EV crossover buyer would be tempted by the name Mach 1 ?!?!

This is irony at it’s finest.

Its a lazy attempt to get enthusiasts on board with electric cars I think. Don’t think it’s going to work

I always saw “Mach1” to be a trim level kind of like “Hellcat” or “Demon” I don’t see anything wrong with this.

Don’t quote me on this, but I think it’s just a special edition of the Mustang. And you wouldn’t be mad if Dodge turned the Demon into an FWD crossover?

Why?!! :(
I’d be fine if it were called something else but why revive a name to make something totally different from what it originally was?
