The Ford Edge ST Is The Warmed-Up SUV We Weren't Expecting

Take the most powerful Edge, give its V6 even more urge, slap it with Ford Performance chassis magic and you can produce one unlikely new sports-SUV

Ford has confirmed that the Edge ST is happening. That’s right, a hot SUV with a sprinkling of Ford Performance magic is coming.

Depending on which side of the Atlantic you call home, the either massive or barely mid-sized SUV has been given suspension upgrades, an eight-speed automatic with Sport Mode, all-wheel drive and a turbocharged EcoBoost V6 with 335bhp and 380lb ft.

It isn’t much faster than the American Edge Sport model, gaining just 20bhp and 30lb ft. But it should handle with loads more poise and panache. In fairness, it probably won’t come to the UK but America should lap it up – or at least that’s what Ford is hoping.

The one slightly iffy part that we can see in the fun reveal video, featuring a certain Ben Collins of Top Gear’s Stig fame, is the noise. It sounds a bit flat for a sporty V6. We’ll look out for more on this in the next few weeks.

All car companies are getting mad making new SUVs, SUVs and more SUVs. There are more soocer mums or is yust that men’s average size (not the height) is smaller than i thought?

transverse engine layout (it’s based on the Taurus, and the Coyote engine is too wide)

I like how it looks, but I honestly cannot think of a target audience for this car. Seriously, who would buy this, especially in Europe? Ford sold 8123 Ford Edges in 2016 and 2017 combined in Germany. Wonder how many of them had a petrol engine?
Four.
Ford successfully sold four petrol-powered Ford Edges in Germany over the course of two years. Seriously guys, I don’t made this up.

This is probably only going to be in North America. People here will buy them.

It’s the car every gear head will want to buy their wife. Family friendly but still fun when they have to drive it and the family around.

I guess we’ve reached the part of Ford’s “20 new performance cars in 10 years” plan where they start getting mildly desperate.

Can’t wait to see the V8 fusion.
