Fiesty Ford Fiesta ST Finally Gets Five Doors

Ford has taken its sweet time about it, but has finally launched a five-door Fiesta ST in the UK in response to public demand - and the layout is here to stay
Fiesty Ford Fiesta ST Finally Gets Five Doors

Some people are never happy. Ford builds a world-beating junior hot hatch in the Fiesta ST, but some folks still bitch about the three-door-only layout. Well, that stops right now because Ford has just brought the five-door to the UK.

For an extra £600 Ford will now sell you a mini-ST that’s a bit more sensible, if not quite so pretty. It wears rear doors surprisingly well but there’s no denying it loses a bit of style. Clearly the extra access points are here to stay, though, with test mules having been spotted with both three and five doors.

You could already get this car in North America, but for some reason Ford must have just forgotten to ship it to Europe, or otherwise underestimated the demand the car would generate.

Under the bonnet everything is identical, so we’re dealing with 179bhp and 177lb ft of torque. But the extra weight of two extra doors means that fuel economy drops from 47.9mpg (yeah, right) to 46.3mpg. In the UK it also steps up one road tax band thanks to a 3g/km rise in CO2, shunting the annual bill from £130 to £145.

Still, Ford reckons the new addition will make up at least a quarter of sales in Britain, and we reckon it might be even more than that. Almost two-thirds of the regular Fiesta sales pot is five-door.

You can’t have the bare-knuckled Fiesta ST200 as a five-door, but maybe if enough people moan about it, Ford might change its mind about that, too.

Never got the whole Fiesta thing.

But, I’ve been working with an ST200 this week and I must say I am DAMN impressed.

I still wouldn’t buy one though - not my thing.

UK car tax is really low anyways, so I guess a lot of people will go for the 5-door

It drives so well.
It’s such a shame you have to sit in that cheap cabin with all the horrible plastics! Blerghhh!
Be nice as a second car just for fun, but not for a daily.

Compared to what? I think it stacks up pretty nicely in the st3 trim. On par with an S4 which is saying something
