Female Drag Racer Catches Shocking High Speed Spin
Taking control of a drag car is no easy task, especially when they start going sideways. Not really designed with turning in mind, catching a slide is nigh on impossible as counter steering is largely ineffective. That is, unless you're Amy Taub.
Taub competes in the NHRA Top Dragster class for T&F Racing. On Sunday at Atco Dragway, New Jersey, everything was going swimmingly for Taub as she hooked up the rear wheels and launched at incredible speed.
Leaving her opponent eating dust, she reaches about 140mph before things begin to go wrong. The car sits on the red line failing to shift, and after a short time we see Amy look down and attempt to get the car into second. It finally shifts, but sends the dragster into a brutal spin.
While she's a passenger at this point, Taub still has the presence of mind to turn into the spin. It might have just been enough to help hook the wheels up and direct her away from the wall, leaving her free to cruise the rest of the strip.
It's actually quite cool that this was uploaded with all of the post-incident footage. It's really interesting to watch crews coming to check she's okay as she calmly jumps out the car, as well as hearing the crew candidly wondering how the hell she didn't plant it in the wall.
