This Dodge Demon Is Ridiculously Outgunned By A McLaren 720S

In a rolling drag race the Dodge Demon, running on regular petrol, is left trailing by a McLaren 720S

The Dodge Demon is the hottest property in straight-line speed right now. You’ve already read about it being too fast for competition, you’ve seen it launch from a helmet-cam’s view and you’ve even seen it on Top Gear. But you haven’t seen it take on a true European supercar… until now.

Running on regular unleaded the Demon’s 6.2-litre supercharged V8 is down to 808bhp, but that’s still quite a lot more than the claimed 710bhp from the McLaren. The British car is lighter by over a tonne, though, and is $238,000 more expensive than the Demon, going by the figures quoted in this video.

While Demon fans will be crying out for the two to race from a standing start, these duels are from a rolling start on what seems to be the public road. The difference is massive; the 720S just walks away from the big Dodge. Even in the second race, where the Demon gets a much better start, the McLaren just disappears.

DragTimes, who published the video, will be filming a follow-up where the Demon is filled with race fuel and the full 840bhp tune is active. We’ll look out for that one, but we can’t see it being enough to tip the scales…

Guys is it possible that the 720s actually has 710hp but mclaren have been able to make the transmission more efficient which might be the reason that the car loses so less power in the real world. If someone has any knowledge let me know.

~378hp per ton in the Demon on pump gas
~458hp per ton in the 720S on whatever gas (going on paper, didn’t listen to the video)

The 720S is 1,000lb lighter AND has a dual clutch transmission. There was no contest with the car having to shift less weight around while going through gears quicker.

I’d like to see them race from a dig. The supercharged demon is more set up for that whereas the turbocharged 720 will benefit from being rolling. Not saying that the Demon will win but roll racing was not it’s intended stage.

Me when my $80k muscle car designed for drag racing doesn’t beat a supercar worth 3x the amount. This is so stupid. It’s like racing a purpose build drag car on a track against a miata.

The 720 does a 9.9 in the 1/4 and Dodge says the Demon will do a 9.65 so it would be a close match on pump gas probably
