Celebrity Waved Canadian GP Flag Early And Shortened The Race
Aside from a huge first-lap crash between Lance Stoll’s Williams and the Toro Rosso of Brendon Hartley (the New Zealander just can’t catch a break, can he?), there wasn’t much in the way of action at the 2018 Canadian Grand Prix. But it did end in a rather unusual way.
It actually finished before it was supposed to, with Canadian model Winnie Harlow waving the chequered flag on lap 69 rather than 70, and for the wrong driver. That meant the result - as it does in the case of a race not restarting after a red flag - went back to the last lap completed by all drivers, which was lap 68.
To be fair to the 23-year-old, it was F1’s fault, not hers - they instructed her to wave the flag at completely the wrong moment. The mishap also didn’t result in any changes of position.
However, it mean Daniel Ricciardo’s fastest lap of 1:13.839 was voided, with the best effort of the race instead going to his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen with a 1:13.864 clocked on lap 65.
Ricciardo didn’t find out until a post-race interview with Sky F1, and the look on his face was pretty priceless…

But what is supposed to happen if this does affect the race positions?
The race positions will be affected. It’s as simple as that.
That’s such an awesome meme template right there… Put in the red box whatever you like, I can’t wait to see what you can come up with! 😂

The face of betrayal and unbelievement. More or less anyway
Or when Verstappen called shoey dibs before he did
The real question is why is her mouth white???
No seriously, why is a non F1 fan waveing the flag?
She has a skin condition in which the skin loses its pigment, not sure what it is called though
At first I thought it was typical model makeup fails, but apparently she has some skin condition.
Definitely agree that there should be a fan (or better still, an ex-driver) waving the flag. Where was Jacques Villeneuve?
Thats a skin condition, nothing wrong with that
Because Liberty hope it will attract new audience. It kinda makes sense:
If you put an F1 personality waving the flag, yeah, cool for the fans but no benefit to the business
If you put an unrelated to F1 celebrity to do that, his/her followers may become more aware of F1 and potentially a small percentage of them might watch a race or two because of their fave celebrity
Hahahahahahshshshshahahaha
Ha
Canadians eh…
Winnie Harlow had too much Hekkinen Beer
We need to stop giving celebrities these flags. Had I been there, because I almost went and bought a ticket for my first ever F1 race because Montreal is the closest track to me, until I saw the price tag for a cheap seat for $1000+, I would have complained until I got my money back. People do not pay this much money to have an event cut short by someone who has no right to hold the checkered flag.
