so basically, Porsche was dominant in the 70s and 80s, then took a quick break and became dominant after the mid 90s… but what happened from 1998 until 2015?

It’s a bit weird to refer to the 956 and 962C as “LH”.
LH stands for Langheck, German for longtail.
There were no short tailed versions of those cars, and I’ve never seen them associated with the LH moniker before. And the Kürzheck 917 is simply called the 917K, not the KH.
There were short tailed versions but they raced on curvier tracks with less highspeed sections.
