The $63,500 Toyota Supra Will Do 0-60mph In 4.5 Seconds

The latest batch of Supra rumours gives us an idea of the pricing and spec for the incoming sports car

It’s been a little while since we last had a reasonably solid Toyota Supra rumour, hasn’t it? The last time we reported something about the new sports car - built as part of a joint venture with BMW that will also give birth to the next Z4 - it involved a Toyota exec telling the world that the Supra “will not be a cheap car.” Now, we have a good idea of how ‘not cheap’ it’ll be.

According to “unconfirmed” details from a “valid source” posted on the Supra MkV forum, we’re looking at a US MSRP of around $63,500. Which, we’re keen to point out, is less than the MkIV was sold for (adjusted for inflation) even after Toyota slashed the price. To give that in some kind of context for those outside the States, that’s around $9000 more than a BMW M2, and $5000 less than an M4.

It’s not just pricing that this source has just divulged - we’re also given some technical details and spec information. On the performance front, we can expect a 3.0-litre inline-six turbo developing 335bhp and 369lb ft (almost certainly a BMW-sourced engine), allowing for a 0-60mph time of 4.5 seconds. The weight meanwhile should be just under 1500kg.

It’ll have a head-up display, lane-keeping assist, pre-collision warning, navigation and park assist fitted as standard. The vents in the front and rear wings are - we’re afraid - said to be fake.

On the inside, we’re promised “Lexus-level quality,” although the infotainment system has been pinched from BMW. Given how good iDrive is these days we’re just fine with that, and in any case, the overall design of the interior will be very different to the Z4’s, from the sounds of it.

It’s hard to know how accurate the above information is, and it’ll be a while before we know for sure: the Supra isn’t expected to be revealed until the 2019 Detroit Auto Show.

I’m trying to love the new Supra, but for the same price you could get a track ready Camaro ZL1 or a Shelby GT350. You cant tell me those two won’t make you giggle like a kid everytime you drive it.

I just imagined Forza Horizon 4 been announced on Sunday, the game is set on Japan and the new Supra is the cover car. What a dream

So, $63.5k before dealer markup when it hits the floor, and a 4.5 second 0-60 with (probably) the M version of the new B58 engine? Drop that 0-60 time 0.8 seconds and it would be worth the price.

If this is the base model Supra, I think 335bhp is an OK amount. I’m sure whatever higher model Supra (perhaps the modern equivalent of the RZ?) that comes next will have at a bit more.

And now that I realize how much a MKIV Supra costs new, those guys who mod the crap out of them when the MKIV was still relatively new must have a fortune!
