3 Hillclimb Crashes Goodwood FoS Didn't Want Us To See
Your heart thumps, your mouth is dry, your sweaty gloved hands clamped on the steering wheel. The white-overalled marshall waves you past and you drop the clutch, catapulting you and your doubtless stunning car out onto Lord March's driveway. You're on the Goodwood hillclimb, on Festival of Speed weekend. Around 185,000 pairs of eyes are on you, plus countless zoom lenses and video cameras. They want to see a show, some tyre smoke, and hear that engine sing. And all you're thinking as you grab second gear and charge forward is: 'don't bin this.'
Especially, don't bite the dust if you're in say, a priceless, one-off concept car based on a Lamborghini Gallardo, using a 552bhp 5.2-litre V10, and a bespoke crossover body designed by the legendary Giugiaro. That'll be the Parcour concept then, and here it is spinning out at speed this weekend.. To the delight of the ever-cynical crowd. Oops #1...
Thankfully the next car to take a hit wasn't as badly damaged. Good thing too, as it's a rather lovely Rothmans Porsche 962. Oops #2
And finally, and perhaps most scary of all, here's Ayrton Senna's 1986 Lotus 98T F1 car taking serious damage at GFoS 2013. #Oops #3
