10 Things You Might Have Missed From Last Weekend’s Motorsport Action

IndyCar returned to the track last weekend for the Iowa Corn 300 at the Iowa Speedway. It was an action-packed race, with Ryan Hunter-Reay scoring his first win of 2015. He narrowly beat Josef Newgarden by half a second.

Behind the lead duo, there were fireworks. Sage Karam raced to his first IndyCar podium, but upset Ed Carpenter along the way. Racing side-by-side, Carpenter expressed his thoughts on Karam’s driving by simply giving him the middle finger.

Sadly the top three drivers couldn’t celebrate the result in Iowa with champagne, as it wasn’t allowed on the podium. This is because Karam is 20, under the legal limit of 21. Judging by his tweet, he wasn’t too sorry about it…

Kyle Busch is on quite a winning streak, scoring his third victory of the last four Nascar Sprint Cup races in New Hampshire last weekend. He led 95 laps, holding off Brad Keselowski to finish in first place yet again. Not bad, not bad…

Something doesn’t look quite right in this video, does it? Alex Bowman pitted due to a flat tyre during the Sprint Cup event, and as he went to return to the track, it erupted in flames. Spectacular, sure, but not the way he wanted his race to go.

The Nascar Xfinity series was also in New Hampshire, with Denny Hamlin making a move on Austin Dillon – who walked away from this huge shunt just two weeks ago – on lap 179 to take his first victory at the track.

F1 driver Jules Bianchi sadly passed away on Friday, nine months after his terrible Japanese Grand Prix crash. Touching tributes flooded in on social media, while his former Marussia teammate Max Chilton took an emotional first pole position and win in the Indy Lights series on Saturday and dedicated both to Bianchi.

8. Double for Ducati

Chaz Davies made history by becoming the first rider to score a double victory for Ducati, winning both World Superbike races at Laguna Seca after an almost perfect weekend. Tragically, two riders lost their lives at the track in the MotoAmerica support race.

We’re not sure this is the best way to take a rally jump. The European Rally Championship was in action over the weekend in Estonia. Alexey Lukyanuk and co-driver Alexey Arnautov won in their Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X.

While that jump may have looked a little scary, the rally went much better compared to this driver… ouch!
