10 Things Jenson Button Could Do After Formula 1

It’s that time of year again, when Formula 1 driver market gossip starts to pick up pace – Jenson Button’s future is a hot topic, which got us thinking about what he could do after moving on from racing in the series!

1. F1 pundit and commentator

Button has a great sense of humour and is a likeable guy. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would like to see him join a broadcasting team in a commentary or pundit role (or, perhaps both). It’s always great to get perspective from recent F1 drivers, and Button has a hilarious, relaxed personality – we see it all the time during interviews and on his social media. He would definitely be a popular addition to a TV team.

2. HondaJet pilot

Some of you may be unaware but Honda also makes planes, so perhaps if Button wants to keep getting his adrenaline fix, he can train to be a pilot. Maybe we’ll see him flying McLaren Honda’s next driver line-up around the world one day.

He’s spent enough time with Santander and been in so many memorable (and hilariously cheesy) adverts. He’d probably make a pretty good sales manager, on the branch floor helping people out with their student current accounts and ISAs.

4. Switch to WEC

If you can’t race in F1, the FIA World Endurance Championship is a pretty damn good alternative. The current grid is made up of a whole host of talented racing drivers, and some – like Mark Webber, Sebastien Buemi and Nick Heidfeld – have previously competed in the pinnacle of single seater racing. Button’s calm, smooth driving style would surely suit the Le Mans 24 Hours or 6 Hours of Spa.

5. Button’s Bakery

It might not be particularly well known but Button is actually a big fan of cake. So a natural next step would be to open up his own cake shop or bakery. “Button’s Bakery” has a good ring to it, right?

6. Hibernate

Button’s life and career always seems to find its way into the gossip columns or celeb news outlets, as well as the F1 media bubble. After the stress and hard work of over 300 races (a mark he will surpass in 2016), it wouldn’t be surprising if he wanted to head off to a quiet corner of Monaco, hibernate and hide from the spotlight, maybe emerging every now and then to compete in a triathlon or go out to the shops.

7. Driving instructor

Think about it. Learning to drive with a 2009 F1 world champion would be not only be pretty cool, but it’d also be a lot of fun too. Plus, he failed his test first time, so he knows what to do and what not to do when it comes to successfully removing the ‘L’ plates from your car.

8. Top Gear presenter

Button made an appearance in a recent episode of the controversial new series, of course driving a McLaren. Many thought he would make a strong addition to the Top Gear line-up, so why not? The British driver has been linked to it before and for good reason.

He’s funny, seems to get on with pretty much anyone and it would be pretty awesome to see him thrashing cars around the track every week. Plus, he’s much less shouty and annoying compared to Chris Evans…

9. Touring cars

If the FIA WEC doesn’t quite work out, touring car championships are a viable option for racing drivers – from the British Touring Car Championship to DTM and Super GT. Plus, he has a really solid relationship with Honda, so maybe they’d back him in a tin-top series.

10. Lawn mower racing

As well as making unreliable F1 power units, Honda also makes lawn mowers. And in some parts of the world, lawn mower racing is actually pretty popular. Imagine Button carving up at a dirt track in the middle of nowhere with a full Honda factory lawn mower racing team, smashing the competition out of the water. That would be quite a sight.

He should join the Fast and Furious cast. Or use his money to sponsor me. Indy 500 would be worth doing.
