10 Overpowered Cars That Would Petrify Clarkson

JC thought the 730bhp F12 was overpowered. Wonder what he’d reckon to these...

F12

Shocked that Jeremy Clarkson thought the £240,000, 730bhp Ferrari F12 "would be better if it had a bit less power"? Is the motoring world about to be sucked into a black hole of oblivion now that the self-styled POWAH-monger is getting on a bit?

Er, no. Actually, JC’s been getting scared of quick cars for a while. Here are five that have already tested dear Jezza’s bottle to the limit – and five he wouldn’t dare handle. Could you?

1. Brabus Rocket

JC knows a thing or two about folding hard-top AMGs. He’s owned an SL55 and SLK55, so a twin-turbo Brabus fettled version should prove no challenge for our hero on the track, right? Wrong...

2. Ferrari 599 GTO

He didn’t like the name, or the price, or the electronics, and complained it was undrivable in the wet. Sure you’re not just a tad terrified of V12 Fezzas, Jezza?

3. Porsche 997 GT2

The GT2, or widowmaker, as it’s often been nicknamed, is a scary car. We know this, from the quality of the epic saves it forces you to make when driving it. If you’re not up to the job though, it’ll terrify you. Exhibit A...

TOP GEAR: PORSCHE 911 GT2 VS LAMBORGHINI GALLARDO

4. Vauxhall Vectra VXR

The hot Vauxhall nukes its Mazda and Ford rivals in a straight line, but is then made to understeer so badly it’s implicitly described as ‘s**t’. Bet the PR team were chuffed when this film went out...

5. Noble M600

"It’s on a constant knife-edge...I’m not really doing this justice". When JC admits he’s not up to the task, you know you’re dealing with quite a serious piece of kit.

And now for five overpowered new cars JC’s yet to have the balls to take on...

6. Jaguar F-type V8 S

f-type-v8-1

Short wheelbase, rear-wheel drive, and a mighty 489bhp on tap from a supercharged 5.0-litre V8. It’s a British muscle car, and sure to catch a few rich old chaps out on their way to the golf course. Maybe Clarkson would be better off in the 335bhp V6 version...

7. Mercedes G65 AMG

A 1970’s design of military off-roader, now most famous for its bi-turbo V8 guise: the G63 AMG. Course, if that’s not mad enough, there’s a bi-turbo V12 version, good for 604bhp and 737lb ft. Crackers.

8. Volvo S60 Polestar

polestar7

Clarkson’s often been known to play on the ‘Volvos are boring’ stereotype, so this £300k special should sort him out. It’s got 500bhp from a turbocharged six-cylinder engine, all-wheel drive, and hits 62mph in 3.9sec.

9. Mercedes E63 AMG S Estate

Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG 4MATIC S-Modell, (S 212) Facelift 2013

Another appearance for Merc, and why not? Here we have an E-class wagon in ultimate ‘S’ form, putting out 577bhp for almost 200mph if stripped of its speed limiter. No-one needs an estate this powerful, but the world is better for Mercedes building it anyway. Time to trade in the CLK63 Black, Clarkson?

10. Ultima GTR TT Black Falcon

Black-Falcon-SBC-TT1750-2

Just about the most overpowered car, er, ever, the Black Falcon GTR would probably finish Clarkson completely. The standard Ultima already holds a 1min 12sec lap record around the Top Gear test track – and this one has a hilarious 1750bhp. Not even the Stig would dare get behind the wheel.

Bonus Car - Caterham 620R

620R 1

Caterham today revealed a new model that's so bonkers, not even JC would dare get behind the wheel (if he could fit in the thing, that is). The Caterham 620R is powered by a supercharged 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine, which bellows out a massive 311bhp and 219lb/ft torque. It'll hit 60mph in 2.79sec and go on to 155mph! Epic.
