Hello, i have a question regarding the revometer.

So from what understand that the revometer gives me a reading of how fast the crankshaft is spinning (??) - (found on wikipedia)-. But if so, How can switching gears drop the engines rpm? Up to now i thought it was counting the rpm for any given gear, made more sense that way to be honest. Also if it’s counting crankshaft rpm, then why does it drop when i use neutral? did the engine suddenly stop spinning? -.- It just doesn’t add up! Anyone got an answer?

Seeing as i dont know much over gear related stuff, that would be an option. Although im just looking to get an answer from someone in CT :)

I dont know if I understood your question correct, but in a higher gear the crankshaft gets slowed down. Kinda like the chain of a bycicle. If you put it in neutral the engine is not connected to the wheels. So the engine doesnt get power (because you dont press the throttle) and the wheels dont rotate the crankshaft anymore, so the crankshaft spins at the engine idling rpm. Dont know if this was the question. Hope i could help. Sry for bad english

Basically when you engage a gear the speed of the wheels determines the speed of the gearbox which then when the clitch is engaged forces the engines rpm to match the speed of the gear box rpm when neutral is engaged the engine has no resistance so simply drops down to its idle speed so in neutral it requires very little throttle to increase the revs as your only spinning the engine up not the gearbox and wheels

Great reply, answered all of the question listed actually… Thanks friend! you really helped me get a clearer picture with this one.

Switching gears drops the revs because the selected gear ratio is different from the previous one. And in neutral, the revs drop because you’re not in any gear. The engine isn’t receiving any power.
