Driving the Col de Tende!

Stage Six would see us briefly entering Italy to drive the Col de Tende on the way to our destination of Fort Central.

We had intended to drive up the Col de Tende on the French side but found the road to be inaccessible to anything other than off-road vehicles.
With a maximum of elevation of 6135 ft the Col de Tende crosses the border between France and Italy and connects the Maritime Alps with the Ligurian Alps.
The route was reportedly first used by the Phoenicians sometime around 1000BC and later maintained by the Greeks and the Romans.
A Tunnel that is almost 2 miles long and simply known as the Tunnel del Tenda was opened in 1882 which bypassed the mountainous section of the Col de Tende,

What is better on mountain roads; a hot hatch or a luxury sports saloon?
We went on a 2000 mile road trip to The French Riviera (Monaco and the surrounding area) to drive some of the world’s best driving roads to find out! This is The Retro Lab’s Monte Carlo Rallye!
