AWD Yaris?

I know for sure there is an AWD version of the Toyota Yaris/Vitz and the thing that bothered me is : can I convert a FWD yaris to AWD by swapping drivetrain, diffs, suspension etc..? I’ve done some research on the internet and nobody has ever been clear regard the topic. Is it possible? Is it worth it? Would it be complicated?

For the price of the parts alone I’m sure it would be cheaper to just buy an AWD Yaris. You’ve also got to work out labour costs (unless you’re doing it all yourself) and then things like a 4 wheel alignment and insurance. Sounds like a fun project though

I have a Scion xA/Toyota ist, which is closely related to the Yaris/Vitz, and there was an AWD version of the ist available in Japan. However if I remember right there were significant structural changes underneath to fit the AWD system, meaning conversion was not as simple as it could have been.

Now, the ist/xA is based on the Vitz/Yaris, but who knows how different they are underneath.
