10 Cars That Is Heavier than The Holden Commodore VF Sedan

Since 1978 the Holden Commodore have served many Australians, and also won many races (only in Australia tho), and recently the Australian legend is going to fade away and will be replaced by the imported ZB “Commodore” (that’s an Insignia BTW).
As a traditional Australian car, the VF weights as much as 1,780 kg‘ in sedan form. But surprisingly, there are more heavier cars than this heavy behemoth.
‘ Note: From Wikipedia.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 S197: 1,792 kg

Everyone will thought that pony cars are light. But look at the S-197 GT500. Surprisingly, it’s 12 kg heavier than the larger Commodore VF with two more doors. That means, it also became somewhat forgotten after the lighter S-197 II came.

Lexus RC F: 1,795 kg

Smaller than the Commodore, but the RC F weights 15 kg more than it. The 5.0 V8 engine also feels like it was a car from America or Australia, but then, it’s a Japanese M3-killer. No wonder Jeremy Clarkson didn’t liked it while test driving it on TG.

Mercedes Benz SL R129: 1,800 kg

Sports cars are light. But not this one. While it was quite understated but the Mercedes SL weights 1800 kg at it’s lightest form, much heavier than the heaviest Commodore VF sedan.

Maserati Bora 1,830 kg

Maserati GT’s aren’t quite lightweight. The Bora, you may think that it’s Ferrari-ish styling will make you think it’s 1000 kg. In fact, it’s 1,830 kg, and it’s a 1970’s car. Mind blown? Confirmed.

BMW E39 M5: 1,830 kg

Being a name synonymous with sportiness, It’s a bit suprising that the E39 is heavier than the heaviest Commodore. At 1,830 kg, it’s really weird for a car like this.

Volvo XC60: 1,834 kg

Tanks aren’t lightweight. This one, although it’s smaller (but taller) than the Commodore, but it’s some of the cars heavier than the Commodore. Even the cheapest petrol version (and don’t mention heavier diesel or hybrid ones), weights as much as 1,834 kg. But at least it got a right badge.

Rimac Concept One: 1,850 kg

And here’s the most ironic thing ever. A electric-powered, carbon-fiber, high-tech hypercar weights 100 kg more than a Aussie muscle saloon with an ancient V8 and a steel body. Wow. Is this the Earth we know yet?
But who cares, if you can get 0-100 in 2.5 seconds with more than 1,800 kg, while saving the Hamster in a fiery crash?

Ferrari FF: 1,880 kg

Heck, even a Ferrari weights more than the Commodore. The FF, despite filled with aluminium, rather than the steel Holden loaded for the Commodore, it weight’s much, much heavier than the Commodore. Surprised yet?

Honda Ridgeline: 1,924 kg

Yes, it’s a pickup. It’s larger than the Commodore. But the latest Commodore is more than 100 kgs lighter than this truck. More surprisingly, this is not a pickup, but a goddamn crossover pickup. And also, it’s the same company who famously made light cars. And speaking of light cars…

Porsche Macan: 1,925 kg

…here is another example of light car makers. Speaking of Porsche, lightweight is one of the words you might hear (GT3, GT2, etc.). But then, the Macan weights over 1,900 kg, definitely a wonder. How Porsche can make a small SUV that heavy?

Bonus - Ford Falcon FG X: 1,872kg

I put the Falcon FG X here because, yeah, it’s the only other car similar if you don’t want the Commodore VF.
Despite it’s sleeker looks, compared to the chunkier Commodore, the Falcon FG X actually weights much heavier than the Commodore.

Reason why the Rimac is heavier: batteries

That’s why electric isn’t really good for lightweight performance cars

The Falcon does look good but the first time I saw one irl I got a glimpse of the rear and though “an Aston!” But it was just a Falcon. I’m sure they didn’t have to copy the Aston rear basically. Also, the vf interior is alot more “European” in the way it’s done which is alot better quality. The interior in a new xr8 was rattling when one magazine was doing the review. Brand New car and interior rattles Yea not good build quality
