10 CARS OLD PEOPLE LOVE.

There are some cars which have the image of only being driven by old people. Today I will show you 10 of them.
NOTE 1: This list is based on my own impressions.
NOTE 2: This list is not meant to criticize old people.
NOTE 3: This list only counts for Germany.

10. Volkswagen Jetta

The Golf with a backpack was the most stereotypical old people’s car some years ago, but nowadays not many of them are left. If you do see one tho, it is most likely green or beige, and it has a nodding dog, a hat and an umbrella behind the rear seats.

NOTE: You’re wondering why this picture shows an old people’s car on the Nürburgring? It may seem weird, but German car magazine Auto Bild Klassik wanted to find out how slow it actually is.

9. Opel Agila

Opel Agila aka Vauxhall Agila aka Suzuki Wagon R… AKA #SWAGON? Here on Car Throttle, yes, but old people prefer the stock version. No, wait, that’s actually not completely true, as they of course add their own modifications: Nodding dogs, hats, umbrellas, wooden seat covers, steering wheel covers etc…

8. Mercedes B-Class (W245)

One of many Mercedes on this list. Old people love the first generation B-Class because it is spacious and provides easy entry (and because it’s a Mercedes).

7. Audi 100 (C2)

This Audi is very similar to the VW Jetta, and so old people love it as well. The one in the picture is also owned by an old man. - How do I know that? - Just look at that green interior!

6. Mercedes 190 (W201)

The predecessor of the C-Class is one of the most stereotypical old people’s cars. Why? Old people seem to like small sedans (this is the third one on this list!). While the colors may vary, they all have the same hubcaps (the ones in the picture). And most of the times they also have seat covers made of fake sheep wool.

5. Opel Meriva A

You may have seen this picture. My Mum has this exact car, same color, same hubcaps. Here where I live, I see at least 3 of them every day (all in this blueish gray) - and apart from my Mum all the drivers (mainly male ones, surprisingly) are at least 70 years old.

4. Ford Fusion

If you live in America, you know the Fusion as a mid-sized sedan. In Europe however, it was this minivan, which was the predecessor of the B-Max. My Mum actually considered buying one of these, but she went for the Meriva because it was bigger (and better). I have seen many of these, but always with pensioners behind the wheel.

3. Mercedes A-Class (W168)

Another Mercedes. Another minivan. Another car with easy entry due to its height. = Another car old people love. Mercedes however didn’t like that old people drove their cars and modified it so they would hate it. Being extremely low to the ground and small, the new A-Class ticks all the boxes of a car pensioners HATE.

2. Mercedes C-Class (W202, W203, W204)

Mercedes built a successor for the 190, and believe it or not, it was still pensioner-friendly. So were the next two generations. And then Mercedes changed their mind and thought they need to produce cars for 20-years-old students which can’t afford them without the help of their parents and grand-parents. Meanwhile the grand-parents stay with the old generations, which resulted in them being stereotypical old people’s cars.

1. Volkswagen Golf Plus

This car is not only driven by old people. It’s also a popular family van. My aunt has one of these, and she uses it to carry around her four children (they have awfully long traditional Bavarian names: Franziska, Ferdinand, Magdalena and Korbinian… And she absolutely hates nicknames…) But still, when you pull up behind a Golf+, it is almost certain that there will be an old man driving it. This is probably Germany’s most popular old people’s car, and that’s why it’s on #1 in this list.

So guys, that’s it! Hope you enjoyed it!

What kind of cars do old people drive in your country? I only know that in America Mercury Grand Marquis seem to be pretty popular.

See you next time!

Over here most old people drive older Mercedes E-Classes.
We were told in driving school to “always give the right of way to old silver Mercedes sedans, otherwise they’ll take it by force”.

Well here in Germany, there just are no Lincolns (only a few stretch limos for weddings), and Volvos are mostly driven by families here

Here in Finland (this applies to Sweden too) people who drive old Volvos like 740s are either old guys in their 60s/70s or teen guys who like to drift them and sh*t (I’m the latter one)
