Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has confirmed that investment in Alfa Romeo has been scaled back, delaying its planned launch of multiple new models
Official: Alfa Romeo’s Bombastic Relaunch Has Been Delayed Until 2020

The Alfa Romeo stable is a curious thing right now. You have a couple of ageing, mediocre hatchbacks, and a paired-back, hardcore sports car. All that is set to change, of course, but not as quickly as originally hoped.

Autocar reports in a presentation to investors, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has revealed that R&D, manufacturing and product investment will be “reduced through 2018”. What this means is the Italian brand’s new product line up - consisting of a total of eight cars including the new Giulia saloon - won’t be in place by 2018 as planned - instead we’ll have to wait until 2020, confirming earlier reports of a delay. It’s partly down to the slowdown of China’s economy.

Joining the Giulia by the end of the year will be a mid-size SUV, with the other models - including a hatchback, two more SUVs, a “full-size” saloon and two “speciality” cars - appearing between 2017 and 2020. Of particular interest is the hatchback, which is confirmed to use a modified version of the Giulia’s rear-wheel drive platform. That means as BMW’s 1-series switches over to front-wheel drive, the Alfa will take its place as the only current rear-drive C-segment hatch. Sounds good to us…

No one so that one coming, at all… I mean we still don’t have civil version of Giulia.

In 2020, if Giulia remains unchanged, it will be hardly competitive with BMW Ms/MBs AMG

Giulia is still arriving this year, though. It’s the completion of the full line up of cars that’s been delayed

as an Alfisti myself, this is really stupid. by 2020, all the Giulia’s magic and charm are good as gone. curse you, China’s economy.

WTF, I don’t know why FCA blame Chinese economy for this. FCA don’t even sell that much cars in China. Even though you can argue that it effects the macro economy, but it does not stop other manufactories from designing and producing new cars in the next couple of years. FCA really need to examine themselves, instead of blaming Chinese economy, why don’t they just stop selling unreliable crappy cars.

The Giulia will still be released in 2016. The article is misleading.

The Giulia will still be released this year, don’t worry!

Here where I live, the Giulia (the QV with 510 hp) is already in the showroom of the dealership ;)

( It arrived last Saturday in the showroom/dealership )

Fine by me. I hear nothing but reliability issues from FCA. Hopefully that is their main reasoning.

Is the Guilia coming to the US? If so, when?

Maybe. Not sure. I am really happy if they are. Because this would kill the German trinity. Looks good so far. Have to wait for the press reviews though. Big expectations…………

It has been on display at every American auto show I know of. I can’t imagine they’d advertise a car they aren’t going to sell in the US so heavily.

Honestly, the car looked dated since day 1.

You can bash my comment as you want, but this car does not look like it will come after the F80, the W205 C63, the ATS-V and the RS4 B9.

everyone talking about reliability issues, fwd……. i, as an owner of a 2007 159 SW 1.9JTDM, can say that those cars are bloody fun to drive (even with a small diesel engine like mine) and as reliable as you are as an owner. and i couldn’t say my driving style is that of an elder 😉 about the post then it’s such a pity. and here i was looking forward to some fresh winds besides Giulia
