The Brabham name is legendary in the world of motorsport. Jack Brabham is - and forever will be, we suspect - the only driver to win a championship in his own car, with the team he set up going on to win further championships after his retirement in 1970.

Son David Brabham meanwhile is a Le Mans winner, and he’s thrust the family name back into the limelight with the newly established Brabham Automotive. The company made its first announcement a few weeks ago, and now, it has confirmed that its very first car will be with us on 2 May. Oh, and we have a cheeky sound clip of the car - dubbed the BT62 - idling.

Brabham Automotive says that the “BT62’s engine note hints at a car that is inspired by Brabham’s historic racing pedigree and uncompromising and fearless determination to succeed.” We think it sounds downright dirty. And almost race car-like - is it a track-only monster being cooked up, rather than a road car? Either way, we’re pretty certain it’s a V8. Beyond that, it’s all guesswork at this stage, with details still extremely limited.

Roll on 2 May…
