What Happens When A Touring Car's Suspension Fails At 120mph
This BTCC driver suffered a suspension failure at the worst possible corner on the UK's fastest track
British Touring Car Championship driver Simon Belcher was lucky to emerge unscathed after a huge crash during the third and final race of the Thruxton weekend.
Suspension failure was to blame for his Toyota Avensis travelling straight on at the 120mph Church corner. With no run-off area or gravel trap to slow the car down, Belcher's Handy Motorsport machine barrel-rolled over the barrier and into the trees behind.
He was one of three drivers to crash at the fearsome right-hander on Sunday. The car is a write-off and the small outfit may not have the budget to finish the season.
