Watch An Opened-Up Engine Throw A Connecting Rod

Ever wondered what it looks like when an engine throws a rod? Wonder no more, thanks to this video depicting an opened-up lawnmower engine's smoky death
Remote video URL

A thrown piston connecting rod is something that spells death for many engines, but what does it actually look like when that happens? And what causes it to occur?

Thanks to this fascinating video, in which a small petrol engine from a lawnmower has part of its crank case removed, we get an inside view as it seizes following a rod failure. We also get to see the cause before the smoky engine death: there’s a hell of a lot of play where the con rod is attached to the crankshaft.

Sit back, relax, and get ready to learn!

Laziness is a cureless disease. I pity those who rarely or never service their cars.

Now I’m kinda curious. How do you fix the knock, well without cutting the engine open like he did.

You have to take apart the engine to replace the connecting rod bearings and get rid of the slack
