Watch As A 21cc Straight-Six Is Built And Revved To 10,000rpm

The other week, we watched a YouTuber playing around with a 50cc V12. Now, ‘JohnnyQ90’ is back presenting another teeny, tiny engine, this time one with the cylinder count divided by two. 

The inline-six is even less than half the size of the V12, displacing just 21cc. The Howin L6-210 is described by its makers as “the first fully functional 4-stroke 6-cylinder combustion model engine kit,” and is yours for $1,299.99, which works out at just over £1,050. 

Based on the design of the Ford 300 fourth-generation inline-six, the 1/8-scale recreation is made up of over 600 CNC machined parts. It features a carburettor rather than fuel injection and uses a single camshaft actuating valves up top via pushrods. 

In JohnnyQ90’s video, we see the engine built up from these parts, with some critiques along the way - the builder isn’t too impressed with the water pump, had to trim some material on the distributor cap to fit the hall sensor properly and elected to make his own cylinder head gasket rather than use the supplied part. 

Once it’s all together, we get to see and hear it running, fuelled on petrol with two-stroke motorcycle oil mixed in. It’s not unlike a three-cylinder motorbike engine to the ears, and it sounds brilliant revving its little heart out to 10,000rpm and slightly beyond. 

As with the V12 we saw recently, you could just have this as a nice little thing to sit in the garage and fire up every now and then to brighten your mood. It’s unclear if this one would be any good for powering an R/C car, though - the product page for the L6-210 makes no mention of such usage. 

Regardless of JohnnyQ90’s plans for the dinky engine, we can’t wait to see what he gets up to. Consider us subscribed.
