VW Introduces Beetle Black Turbo Launch Edition

The previous generation New Beetle was never a car known to attract guys. Why? It was simply too cutesy in a way the original wasn't. Most guys won't be seen in a New Beetle.

The previous generation New Beetle was never a car known to attract guys. Why? It was simply too cutesy in a way the original wasn't. Most guys won't be seen in a New Beetle.

With that in mind, VW out to attract a new set of buyers for the next-generation Beetle; ones across the spectrum. We didn't think it was possible but the effort definitely worked. The 2012 Beetle is very good looking, and a car we could see ourselves driving, especially in sports form.

The 2012 Beetle exudes coolness inside and out; especially this new Black Turbo Launch Edition. We're thankful VW's relentless quest for volume that has given us the uninspired 2011 Jetta and 2012 Passat leaves room for enthusiast-minded vehicles.

The Black Turbo Launch edition shows a glimpse of the potential that is there for future performance variants of the Beetle....like an R model! But, we digress. The Black Turbo Launch Edition is available in one color; black and with one engine; a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four making 200 horsepower. Mated to that engine is VW's soon-to-be-ubiquitious dual-clutch gearbox.

With black paint, 18-inch wheels and upgraded brakes with red calipers, the Black Turbo Launch Edition looks pretty aggressive. Other exterior changes include a rear spoiler and foglights.

In the interior VW adds an extra glovebox, alloy pedals and the Beetle's standard seats are swapped out for sport seats covered in cloth. Just 600 units of the Black Turbo Launch Edition will be making their way into enthusiasts hands; priced at $24,950. Reservations can take place at www.vw.com/preorder.
